The Center for Human Rights is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of knowledge through rigorous research and publications, focusing on a wide array of thematic areas critical to the study, promotion, and effective implementation of human rights in Ethiopia. Recognizing the pressing need to address existing gaps in understanding and application, the Center endeavors to make strategic contributions that resonate within both academic and policy circles.

Within the Ethiopian context, the landscape of human rights scholarship reveals notable deficiencies, including the absence of primary textbooks dedicated to human rights and the national human rights system. Furthermore, there exists a noticeable scarcity of research outputs exploring both the normative principles and practical dimensions of human rights, alongside a significant dearth of national and thematic human rights assessments by independent institutions.

Through its research and publications, the Center aspires to attend to these lingering problems both policy settings and implementation of human rights, and hence bridges the gap in the national human rights jurisprudence. With this view, the Center has produced research outputs and training manuals.

One of the major and permanent publications of the Center is its annual journal Ethiopian Journal of Human Rights (EJHR). The journal publishes on diverse themes in close collaboration with stakeholders. Since its establishment, the Center has published five volumes of human rights journals.

Moreover, the Center undertakes methodological analyses of reports issued by national human rights institutions, as part of a broader program aimed at enhancing the comprehension and application of human rights principles within the Ethiopian context. By providing invaluable insights and critical assessments, these analyses contribute significantly to the ongoing refinement of human rights understanding at the national level, ultimately strengthening the foundations of human rights protection and advocacy in Ethiopia.
